About RentRights

RentRights answers one question well: what are my rights as a renter where I live? We cover the five issues tenants hit most — security deposits, eviction notices, repairs, landlord entry, and rent increases — for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Every rule is written in plain language and cited to the underlying statute, with the date a human last reviewed it. Of 51 jurisdictions, 10 have had a full citation-verification pass; the rest carry best-effort values flagged for local verification.

Scope and limits

We cover state-level statutory baselines only. Local ordinances — city rent control, just-cause eviction rules, deposit-interest requirements — frequently override these, so the tool always tells you to check your local rules. Laws also change; a recently amended statute may not yet be reflected here.

This is general legal information, not legal advice. It does not create an attorney-client relationship. For your specific situation, consult a licensed attorney or your local housing authority.
